The Gunston School's Top Five Accomplishments 2015-2019
1. Environmental Strategic Plan (2015-2016) Gunston’s Board of Trustees adopted the Environmental Strategic Plan in January of 2016--the plan includes four key areas of focus: Program and Instruction, Facilities, Partnerships, and New Programs.
2. Educating for Sustainability (2016-2017) Guided by Gunston’s Environmental Strategic Plan, we have focused our professional development and curricular work on integrating Educating for Sustainability into all aspects of curriculum and instruction.
3. Campus Infrastructure Improvements (2016-2018) Gunston continues to make significant improvements to the campus including the complete renovation of the existing former dormitory into a daylit education space, installed LED lighting in the fieldhouse, and repurposing a former residence into a multipurpose athletics space.
4. Stormwater Restoration Work (2017-2018) In partnership with ShoreRivers, Queen Anne’s County, DNR Trust Fund, and the Corisca River Conservancy, Gunston was able to install a suite of stormwater management practices that help filter runoff from impervious surfaces, reduce erosion in the Critical Area, and enhance the environmental, educational, and aesthetic value of our campus.
5. Launching the Chesapeake Watershed Semester (2018-2019) The Gunston School has launched an innovative new semester school, the Chesapeake Watershed Semester, which offers high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to take an educational deep-dive into the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay through the dual lenses of environmental science and public policy.
