1. Rain Barrels - Students from grades 10-12 installed and painted 6 rain barrels on campus as part of the annual Earth Day (April 2016) celebration. These barrels help Gunston's facilities team reuse rainwater and reduce overall water usage.
2. Trash Cleanups - Gunston students participate in regular trash pickups throughout the school year. For example, on the right: a Gunston junior picks up trash as part of an Earth Day worksop in April, 2018 (10 students, grades 9-12). Students do this to keep the Corsica River healthy and free of debris like plastic, paper, and cigarette butts.
3. Oyster Cages - The student-run Environmental Club (54 students, grades 9-12) has 5 oyster cages hanging from Gunston's school docks. These cages are maintained and monitored by students monthly in the hopes of helping rebuild the oyster population, a natural filter for aquatic debris and sediment. They are a safe and secure place for oysters to grow and reproduce.
